The French established a unique relationship with Native Americans\, who led them deep into this vast continent and revealed its riches. The maps created from their explorations fundamentally impacted how colonizers would lay claim to enormous portions of North America—and how emerging nations would later redefine those claims. \nAbout Roger Mummert \nRoger Mummert is a writer whose work on culture has appeared in the New York Times and elsewhere. He is the creator of www.theparisproject.net and the newsletter “Paris: A City of Ideas.” \nHe is the creator and host of an ongoing series of Zoom presentations in association with the Alliance Française on Paris and French culture. DESCRIPTION:Bordeaux Immersion Trip\nSeptember 24\, 2026 – October 3\, 2026\n\n\nREGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 2nd\n\n\nThe Federation of  Alliances Françaises USA is pleased to offer our second language-immersion travel program to Bordeaux\, France in the fall of 2026.  This is a benefit of Federation membership\, allowing smaller chapters in many states to offer a language-immersion experience to their members. Bordeaux is an international tourist destination known for its architectural and cultural heritage and is often referred to as the world capital of wine\, with many castles and vineyards. \nIn cooperation with the Alliance Française de Bordeaux Nouvelle-Aquitaine (AFB)\, program participants will have the opportunity to enroll in a group class at the AFB in the morning and attend cultural activities in the afternoon. Travel partners are welcome to attend under certain conditions. \n\nFor A2-level to C2-level students (from advanced beginners to advanced learners)—sorry\, we cannot accommodate beginners. Est-ce qu’elle était réellement le sosie de cette inconnue ? » Peint à Vienne en 1910\, le tableau de Gustav Klimt Portrait d’une dame est acheté par un collectionneur anonyme en 1916\, retouché par le maître un an plus tard\, puis volé en 1997\, avant de réapparaître en 2019 dans les jardins d’un musée d’art moderne en Italie. Aucun expert en art\, aucun conservateur de musée\, aucun enquêteur de police ne sait qui était la jeune femme représentée sur le tableau\, ni quels mystères entourent l’histoire mouvementée de son portrait. Des rues de Vienne en 1900 au Texas des années 1980\, du Manhattan de la Grande Dépression à l’Italie contemporaine\, Camille de Peretti imagine la destinée de cette jeune femme\, ainsi que celles de ses descendants.
