Wethersfield resident Silas Deane played a crucial role in helping to establish an important
alliance between the U.S. and France. This lecture by Dr. Richard Bell will explore the important
role that the alliance with the French played in the American Revolution and how the alliance
evolved over time from France providing secret support with guns and other goods to France
working together with the U.S. to beat the British at the decisive siege of Yorktown.
Funding for the program series is made possible by the generous financial support of the Robert
Allan Keeney Memorial Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving, M & T  Charitable
Foundation, Awilda Aponte & Ken Johnson, and members of Wethersfield Historical Society.
