We will take a private tour of Hill-stead Museum in Farmington which will include the house tour with its wonderful French impressionist paintings by Monet, Manet, and Degas along with prints by exceptional
French printmakers such as Meryon and Braquemond. After the house tour, the group will visit the archives to examine the set of Vingt Dessins by Degas (one of the 100 portfolios that Degas selected,
reworked, and signed of his work). These rare prints are not normally on view and need to be seen by special appointment.
The tour will take place in French with Hill-stead guide and Alliance Francaise member Sharon Straka on Saturday, September 23 at 10:00 and will finish at 11:30.
The sunken garden can also be viewed after
the tour or members may choose to stroll the grounds or walk on the trails. Also, possible get-together for light lunch at Hartford Baking Company, Farmington.
Visitor parking is behind the museum in the lot. Visitors must leave items in lockers by the gift shop. No photography is allowed in the house, but outdoor photography is encouraged. The gift shop has some postcards and reproductions.
