“Et tout le monde swing! – Traditional Dance Music of Quebec

May 4 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

$35.00 – $40.00

Join us for our Annual Meeting May 4, 2024 at 3 PM – Special musical program:
“Et tout le monde swing! – Traditional Dance Music of Quebec

Get ready to tap your feet or get up and dance to the lively music of the veillées of Québec, community social gatherings centered around traditional music and dance. These are very much living traditions, with deep roots not only in France but in other places like Ireland and Scotland, as well as an ever-evolving contemporary scene. Learn about the music and dance forms like reels, six-huits, and quadrilles, the instruments, and significant composers and players from the olden days (Isidore Soucy, Alfred Montmarquette) to the revival (Jean Carignan, Philippe Bruneau, La bottine souriante) to modern bands (Genticorum, Le vent du Nord). C’est l’fun!

Aaron Bittel, musicologist from Wesleyan University and his fellow musicians, Liz Raymond and Ken Karpowicz, form the trio called “Le Garage du Québec.” Between them, we will hear two kinds of accordions, the harmonica, piano and podorhythmie (Québécois-style foot percussion.) Are you tapping yet?

We will also enjoy refreshments and meet our Alliance Française de Hartford Board members.

Location: AFH Conference Center, 57 Charter Oak Ave. (Upper Parking Lot) Hartford, CT
